Metin Licis: Five Basic Factors That Will Motivate Your Employees More Than Money!
We had an interview with famous businessperson Metin Licis on five essential factors that will motivate business owners’ employees more than money. Many studies have been done on this topic over the years. As an answer to why we come to work every day, most of these studies concluded that money is a sub-motivator rather than the primary goal. In a survey of more than 5,500 people at the end of 2019, it was concluded that only 13 percent of those looking for a new job wanted to change careers because they were not satisfied with their current salary and social rights.
So actually, other factors played a much more significant role. Forty percent were looking for a new position just because they thought it was time for a change. Twenty-two percent wanted a better education and career opportunities.
Let’s take a look at some of the factors that Metin Licis describes as inspiring and motivating, which may be more critical to your employees than money.
1. Arouse a Feeling of Purpose and Meaning
Metin Licis explains the sense of meaning and purpose in employees, “People are increasingly looking for meaning and purpose in their professional lives; in other words, they want to feel like they are truly contributing to our world and making a difference.”
According to a study of 10,000 people, more than 95 percent may choose to earn less for the opportunity to do more meaningful work.
So, if you want to motivate your employees, you need to give them the feeling that their role is meaningful and purposeful.
What can you do to make your employees perceive their work more meaningfully and goal-oriented? Metin Licis gives the following answer to the question: “Bring your team together to discuss in an open meeting and try to find out what tasks each enjoys.” With this information, you can reassign critical tasks and work more effectively with your employees so that every member of your team stays productive.
Your employees must understand the role they play in your business and feel the importance of it. After all, the more impact an employee has on your location, the more likely they will combine a sense of belonging with the company’s success as their success. ”
2. A Positive Company Culture
Metin Licis stated that the company culture plays an essential role in increasing employee motivation. He continued his words as follows:
“There is a strong relationship between employees who feel happy and valuable at work and employers who see their organization as having a strong culture.”
3. Appreciation
Metin Licis emphasized that employees should be equally appreciated and thanked for all their contributions and achievements. “ It is human nature to want others to know you for your contributions. Knowing your employees helps you create an emotional bond between them and your company. However, you can do much more than paying an employee minimum wage and ” pat on the back” for their efforts. Using a laudatory tongue to your employees for a job well done will be in your interest.”
4. Training and Development Opportunities in the Workplace
Metin Licis says, “By developing your employees, you are showing them that they are important to the job, that you see their potential and want to help them advance in their roles.”, also adds: “According to a study done on LinkedIn last year, 94 percent of employees said that if employers take an active role in their learning and development processes, they will stay in their companies longer. Not only that, but another survey found that 22 percent of people would leave their current jobs if they were offered better education opportunities elsewhere.
Please note that although your business or department does not currently have a budget for training and development, there should be many free training opportunities that your employees can attend, such as webinars and online conferences. Employers should want to contribute to the development of their employees. Because boosting the skills of employees offers many advantages for employers as well as employees. Therefore, it is always worth investing in education.”
5. A Clear Path to Career Development
Metin Licis says that the most motivating thing is to allow your employees to climb the career ladder in your business.
A study by LinkedIn reveals that 45 percent of people leave their ex jobs worried about the lack of advancement opportunities.
The most significant recommendation of Metin Licis on this matter is that you should hold meetings regularly with your employees to discuss their wishes and promotion possibilities. Metin Licis adds: “You need to be open and honest with your staff about their career goals, and working together to achieve them can give you a strong retention advantage. Suppose an employee has requested a promotion from you, and it cant be done due to current financial shortcomings or lack of a position to promote. In that case, you can give them more voice and autonomy within the business, which can be a satisfactory compromise. ”
